Arcane, Miraculous, and Psionic Powers

Characters with special powers abound in the Planescape setting. The five major divisions of unusual abilities are:

Artifice (the crafting of enchanted items)
Magic (theorem- and ritual-based spellcasting)
Miracles (abilities granted by a deity or force)
Psionics (inborn mental powers cultivated by focus and discipline)
Sorcery (innate abilities inherited from an unusual ancestor)

A less common source of invoked abilities is that of Faction belief. Several factions (the Doomguard, Fraternity of Order, Harmonium, Mercykillers, and Xaositects) can, even as Namers, draw on their convictions to produce supernatural effects.

Though these powers have different sources, advantages, and drawbacks, they create similar results.
